Awhile back I talked about a want ad that was not going to be effective. Today I have found one that could be the best food service ad that I have seen.
Coffee Social, a new organic cafe, is looking for PT help. Hours (to start) are 11-2 three days a week (no weekends).
We are serious about good coffee, good service and good food. Other than that, we're a pretty irreverent bunch.
We're looking for that perfect fit:
- characteristics: likes working with people, not easily flustered, good work ethic
- company culture fit: has a commitment to (and knowledge of) organic foods, sustainable agriculture and business practices; customer service oriented; tolerant of the weird (we're more Circus Contraption, Tom Lehrer and Monty Python than John Mayer, Good Charlotte, This is Your Line); erudite.
- job skills: cashiering, drink-preparation (espresso, tea, shakes, etc.), food preparation (sandwiches, salads), cleaning/dishwashing (we're a small shop--everyone pitches in), cooking/baking (bonus!).
What we provide: a non-corporate work environment; a chance to work at a place that cares about good coffee; a monthly bus pass; shift meals.
Please apply in person at Coffee Social, 113 W Indiana.
This ad reminds me of Doma Coffee's practice of requiring applicants to draw a picture on the back of the application. It wasn't necessarily an art test but rather a good indication of how the applicant's personality responded to the situation.

David,
I'm glad you liked the ad. I am chagrined, though--I got so busy talking to you today that I didn't give you your 10% bicyclist discount. If you make it in again I'll redress that.
reminded me of a post I read just a week ago...
I was in there last week. The whipped cream on the mocha is real, made with vanilla and sugar, and would be worth eating straight out of a cup with a spoon.
I know Rachel, and this ad is a great description of the place. We got outstanding, friendly, personable service.
